Google on Monday showed off a new quantum computing chip that it said was a major breakthrough that could bring practical quantum computing closer to reality.

Türkiye has introduced its first domestically developed quantum computer, the result of 14 years of research by TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara.

The computer was unveiled during a ceremony in the capital on Nov. 21, attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Defense Industry Agency head Haluk Görgün and several sector representatives.

While the theoretical possibility of multidimensional quantum teleportation has been known to scientists for nearly three decades, a research team has developed a new experimental method and the necessary technology to finally achieve it.

Google believes it is on the verge of "quantum superiority" with a new 72-cubic quantum processor it develops, reports The Registry online. The term "quantum superiority" means the moment when a quantum computer will perform better than a traditional computer without getting any data processing errors.

The Chinese quantum satellite was orbited two years ago. Since then, a number of experiments have been carried out with it, and in the summer of last year the satellite has been able to transmit information to three ground stations a thousand kilometers apart.

Researchers from Australia say they have designed a new type of qubit - or quantum bit, a piece of information - which they think is close to creating a real, full-size quantum computer, ScienceAlert reported.
