Weather: Warm start to the week with 28°C – When cooler temperatures will arrive

This week starts with warm and mostly dry conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 28°C. However, cooler weather is on the horizon, with a noticeable temperature drop expected by the end of the week, marking a shift after a prolonged warm period, as reported by Thodoris Kolydas, the director of the National Weather Service.

Cold wave to grip country, heavy rains lash Istanbul

Heavy rain caused significant disruptions and paralyzed daily life in the metropolis of Istanbul on Oct. 12, with a cold wave expected to sweep the nation, particularly after Oct. 25, according to data from the U.K.-based meteorology platform WXCharts.

Puddles formed on the roads in several parts of Istanbul due to torrential rains, causing traffic congestion and multiple accidents.

A cold atmospheric front will move through Eastern Bulgaria overnight, leading to precipitation in many areas, including the central regions, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. In Western Bulgaria, however, the rain will cease, and clouds will begin to break. Winds across the country will shift from the west-northwest and strengthen.

The existence of African dust in the atmosphere today is mentioned in a new post by the director of EMY, Thodoris Kolydas.

The well-known meteorologist in a new post on Friday morning, said that the suspended African dust in the atmosphere today is in low concentrations. From tomorrow, however, he noted that it will gradually start to move away.

According to the Moroccan government, in just two days of storms in September, some areas received as much water as would typically fall in an entire year.

A notable example is the village of Tagounit, located 450 km south of Morocco’s capital, Rabat, where 100 millimeters of rain fell within 24 hours.

Sunny days expected till weekend, rain to follow

Clear skies and sunny weather are on the horizon for the country until the weekend, but meteorologists warn that rain is set to return shortly thereafter.

In its weekly report outlining conditions until Oct. 14, the Turkish State Meteorological Service expects a brief break from the recent rainfall, particularly in the northeastern cities, which saw downpours on Oct. 8.

September second-warmest on record

Last month was the second-warmest September ever registered globally in an exceptional year "almost certain" to become the hottest on record, the EU climate monitor Copernicus said on Tuesday.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said the average global temperature last month was second only to September 2023.
