A vehicle caught fire on Monday afternoon on Petrou Ralli Street in the suburban Attica district of Nikaia, causing traffic diversions. 

Ten firefighters with four vehicles are working to extinguish the blaze, according to the Fire Department. 

The Greek Police (ELAS) on Monday activated a much-touted plan to evacuate squats in abandoned buildings in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia.

The operation, which began at the crack of dawn, led to the removal of 143 migrants from two of four occupied buildings located on Spyrou Trikoupi, Kallidromiou and Fotila streets.

Police say they have arrested six people, four men and two women, over an attack on police patrol car that injured both members of the crew.

The attack took place on Thursday night when the officers stopped two drunk men in a car on the corner of Athens's Kifissou and Petrou Ralli, near a Roma encampment.
