Moody’s demographic alarm

Moody's warned on Tuesday that worsening demographics and the increase in the dependency ration of the elderly constitute a serious fiscal challenge as well as a cause of downgrades of states' ratings. Greece, as it states, is expected within the next decade to have the fifth highest dependency ratio among all developed economies internationally.

76% of the Employed in Bulgaria Work in the Private Sector

In the third quarter of 2018 the number of unemployed people was 168.3 thousand, of which 97.2 thousand (57.7%) were men and 71.1 thousand (42.3%) were women. The unemployment rate is 5%, for men 5.4% and for women 4.5%, and decreases by 0.8 percentage points compared to the same period in 2017, reports money.bg

More over-65s to depend on fewer workers

Greece has the second highest proportion of over-65-year-olds in the European Union according to data released on Tuesday by Eurostat. The figures show that last year the ratio of over-65s to the population aged between 15 and 64 years exceeded one in three.  Only Italy had a greater rate than Greece's, while Luxembourg had the lowest rate in the bloc.

213,900 are the Unemployed in Bulgaria

The coefficient of the economic activity of the population aged between 15 and 64 is 71.8%, according to NSI data for the second quarter of the year. This is 2.4% more than in the same period of 2016. The employment rate is 67.2%, which is a 3.5% increase on an annual basis. The unemployment rate is 6.3%, or 1.7% lower than the same period last year, Nova informs.

Number of illiterate women five times higher than number of illiterate men in Turkey

The number of illiterate women in Turkey is five times higher than the number of illiterate men, according to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). 

While 5.4 percent of the overall population aged 25 and over is illiterate, this rate was 1.8 percent for men and 9 percent for women in 2015.

1 in 2 Greeks jobless in 3rd quarter: OECD report

According to data announced by the OECD, employment rates in Greece reached 52.4% in the third quarter of 2016. The figure, which focused on the age group 15-64, revealed a rise compared to the second quarter’s 51.1%. However, the employment rate lags behind the Eurozone which stood at 65.5% in the third quarter from 65.3% in the second quarter.

Bulgaria's Employment Rate Increased by 2 % Y/Y in 2015 - Eurostat

The employment rate of Bulgarians aged 20 to 64 increased by 2 % in 2015 compared to the previous year.

This is revealed by the latest figures of Eurostat released on Tuesday.

In 2014, the employment rate in Bulgaria stood at 65.1 %, while last year it reached 67.1 %.

As in previous years, employment rate continued to be higher among men (70.4 %) than women (63.8 %).
