The next four companies, identified by the operation of the digital misleading rebate detection tool used by the Ministry of Development audit services, were notified of the fines, just as had happened before the first announcement of the five companies last Friday.

Specifically, according to the announcement, these companies are:

A Culture Ministry draft bill that has been put up for public consultation foresees the creation of a new agency bringing together the two bodies responsible for film and television. 

With two weeks to go before the final extended deadline to submit income tax forms - noon on Thursday, August 31 - 5,945,364 of the about 6.5 million taxpayers, or slightly over 9 out of 10 (91.5%) have submitted their declarations so far, the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) says. 

An intensive effort by Cyprus' Tax Department in recent months has resulted in rebates of over 70 million euros of excess taxes, with an additional €200 million expected to be paid, according to the head of the department, Sotiris Markides.

He emphasized that the Tax Department aims to clear all outstanding corporate and individual taxpayer rebates by the end of 2023.

An electronic platform allowing households to apply for a power bill rebates, to offset higher bills, will open on June 16, Greek Alternate Finance Minister Theodoros Skylakakis announced, although the government will try to have it up and running by June 15.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced in a nationally televised statement this evening that the government will give households with an annual income of up to 45,000 euros a rebate equivalent to 60 percent of the energy price hikes that occurred from December 2021 and up  until this month.

An EU court on Jan. 26 annulled a 1.06 billion euro ($1.2 billion) fine against U.S. chipmaker Intel, finding that Brussels had failed to adequately prove anti-competitive practices in a key aspect of the case, a statement said.

With the goal of attracting big international film productions to Greece, an amendment will soon make its way to Parliament which will modify legislation regarding the cash rebate investment tool.

While the government has stated its intention to hand out around a billion euros next week - ahead of the May 26 European, local and regional elections - the state owes well over half that in outstanding value-added tax rebates to taxpayers, according to data from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.
