Reformist Bloc To Decide on Mandate To Form Cabinet

The executive council of the Reformist Bloc will meet today in order to decide whether the bloc will take advantage of the mandate to form a government which President Rossen Plevneliev will hand over to the formation at 11:00 hrs.

This is the last chance to form a cabinet within the framework of the current parliament before the appointment of a caretaker government.

Bulgaria President Postpones Effort to Form Govt over National Mourning

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will not hand over a government mandate to the Reformist Bloc coalition on Monday as scheduled, his office says.

The reason cited is the day of national mourning declared over the tragic incident in Hitrino, northwestern Bulgaria, where seven people lost their lives and 29 were injured in a cargo train explosion.

Reformist Bloc Does Not Want Mandate, Majoritarian Elections

The Reformist Bloc will not participate in a new government within the framework of the current Parliament and is against the introduction of a majoritarian system with 240 electoral regions.

The representatives of the coalition, of which DSB is no longer part, united around this position at a meeting of the executive council of the bloc.

Kuneva: RB Will Return Mandate

If it comes to us, the return of the mandate by the Reformist Bloc will be a sensible and normal decision, stated the chairwoman of DBG Meglena Kuneva, reported BGNES.

"Our party is as strong and big as the number of its membres, sympathisers and friends," added Kuneva

Union of Democratic Forces Faces Leadership Challenge

Part of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) demanded change of leadership of the party and refused joining GERB.

Part of the Union in Sofia published on Facebook a declaration blaming the unsatisfactory result of Traycho Traykov during the presidential elections on a lack of clear support from the leadership of the party, especially from the leader Bozhidar Lukarski.

Govt Resignation 'Not End of Reformist Bloc' - Outgoing Bulgarian Deputy PM

Bulgaria's outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva has said the collapse of the current cabinet does not bring about a demise of the Reformist Bloc (RB) coalition which she co-chairs.

The RB, a loose coalition of centrist and right-wing parties, was the junior coalition partner in the outgoing Bulgarian administration.

Bulgaria's PM to Become Lawmaker

Ministers from the two parties in the outgoing government are poised to take seats in the Bulgarian Parliament after the cabinet's resignation is accepted.

Boyko Borisov, the outgoing Prime Minister, is also tipped to become an MP.

GERB and the Reformist Bloc had a total of 12 representatives in Bulgaria's executive.
