The First Refugee Center of Restricted Type is Ready

The first refugee center of restricted type is ready and will become operational once it is furnished. This is the transit center in the village of Pastrogor. Turning it into a prison where only people who have committed a violation of the internal order will cost nearly BGN 2 million, bTV said. Its capacity is 300 people but is currently empty.

More than 850,000 refugees in Turkey to get debit cards for aid

More than 850,000 refugees will receive special debit cards by August financed by the European Union and implemented by the Turkish Red Crescent, according to European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) in Turkey.        

Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Saturday, ECHO head Jane Lewis said the target was to access over a million refugees by September.

Amnesty International calls for shutdown of Elliniko migrant camp

Amnesty International has made an urgent appeal for the shutdown of the Elliniko migrant and refugee camp on Athens's southern coast and is calling for the transfer of its 1,200 occupants to alternative shelters.

The rights organization is decrying appalling living conditions at the facility and says that women and underage girls live in constant fear of sexual and verbal abuse.
