Gov't considering stricter local lockdowns
There are 11 areas in Greece close to "red alert" status due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections and the government is considering tighter local lockdowns, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said Wednesday.
Apart from the Western Attica regional unit, all others are in central and northern Greece.

Pedestrian dies after being hit by cars several times
A man was killed after being run over several times near Thessaloniki in northern Greece.
The 20-year-old, who was not named, was found on the Thessaloniki-Kilkis national highway late Tuesday.
Police said a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old woman hit the pedestrian who was subsequently struck by several more vehicles.
An investigation into the death is ongoing.
Car chase after Thessaloniki mugging
Three foreign nationals, aged 23, 28 and 21, were arrested in Thessaloniki, northern Greece after a car chase, police said on Tuesday.
The three were charged with mugging a man in the city center, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and resisting arrest.

Cities of Karditsa, Rethymno aluded for pedestrian, cyclist safety
The cities of Karditsa in central Greece and Rethymno on the island of Crete received distinctions as part of European Mobility Week 2019 for their efforts to promote safe walking and cycling.
Karditsa came first in the category of small towns (less than 50,000 inhabitants), while Rethymno was second in the category of large cities.
Health agency sending coronavirus testing teams to remote islands
The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) has teamed up with a nongovernment organization dedicated to improving living conditions on Greece's remote islands to bring coronavirus testing to communities that are cut off from medical facilities.
Moderate quakes off Crete and Zakynthos
Two undersea quakes occurred off Greek islands on Saturday, the first in the Aegean, off Crete, and the second in the Ionian Sea close to Zakynthos.
The first tremor, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, struck the seabed off the southeastern coast of Crete at 5.30 a.m., according to the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens National Observatory.
