System failure and despair

All systems are prone to fail at some point. In politics, it's the response to failure that matters. A lack of response generates a sense of exclusion, cynicism, and, for some, the search for more radical alternatives. These are outcomes that can carry a heavy cost for democracy.

Decision signed for electronic register of bridges

Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras signed a decision on Friday to create a data base for Greece's bridges, the ministry said.

The platform's aim is to provide the relevant services with the right tools for a comprehensive system of recording, inspecting, evaluating and maintaining the country's stock of bridges, exceeding six metres.

Stricter rules for loan issues

New loan issues by local lenders will become harder from January as they must adhere to strict risk assessment criteria. Meanwhile Morgan Stanley has warned that the price Greek banks will pay for slashing their bad loans will be major reductions in their stock values.
