Amendment writes off multi-million-euro fine imposed on tobacco firm SEKAP
The government on Friday submitted an amendment in Parliament writing off a 44-million-euro fine the state had imposed on tobacco company SEKAP over smuggling infractions.
SYRIZA had voted a similar amendment in 2017, but an appeals court in northern Greece upheld the fine in 2017, noting that it did not have a retroactive application.

Pope names 17 cardinals 13 of whom are electors
Pope Francis has named 17 new cardinals - 13 of them under age 80 and thus eligible to vote in a conclave to elect his successor. Three of the new cardinals are Americans, including moderate Chicago Archbishop Blaise Cupich and Indianapolis Archbishop Joseph Tobin.

Obama decries anti-Muslim rhetoric on first mosque visit
Barack Obama offered an impassioned rebuttal of "inexcusable" Republican election rhetoric against Muslims on Feb. 3, on his first trip to an American mosque since becoming president seven years ago.
