Five people drown in southeastern Turkey reservoir
Five people have drowned in the restricted Alkumru reservoir in the
southeastern province of Siirt, while one person is still missing,
officials have said.
A large number of people entered the empty reservoir on the Botan River for a picnic on Aug. 24, but at around 6 p.m. the damâs gates suddenly opened to allow large flows of water to pour into the reservoir.

Dam Failure at 2 Reservoirs Most Likely Cause of Floods in NW Bulgaria
Rupturing in the walls of two dams in the northwestern Vratsa district caused the deadly flooding in the town of Mizia in early August.
The findings of experts were reported by the municipal administration in the flood-stricken town, according to private TV station bTV.
Plan to restore Asopos River enters final stage
Plans are in the final stage for the ecological restoration of Asopos River in Central Greece following a deal to install an integrated water resources management system.
The 37.6-million-euro deal was signed by Alternate Environment Minister Nikos Tagaras, Athens water company (EYDAP) CEO Antonis Vartholomaios and Tanagra Mayor Evangelos Georgiou.

Water reserves drained, streams dried out for Istanbul’s third airport
The Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) has said that 70 water reserves will be drained and eight streams dried out for the construction of Istanbulâs third airport, warning of a âserious water crisis.â
TMMOB Environment Engineers branch head Baran BozoÄlu warned that the city is on the verge of a serious water crisis.
Greenpeace Warns of Polluted Reservoirs in Bulgaria's Stara Zagora
Excessive levels of lead, chromium and manganese have been detected by the Greenpeace organization in reservoirs located near power plants in Bulgaria's region of Stara Zagora.
This was announced at a press conference by Dr. Filka Sekulova from the Bulgarian branch of the international environmental organization, Radio Stara Zagora reports.
Environment Ministry Warns of Potential Floods
Bulgaria's Environment Ministry warns of possible rising of river levels in the Danube catchment and central Bulgaria due to heavy rains and release of reservoirs.
There is risk of local flash floods, said the Ministry.
Local authorities in the potentially affected areas have been alerted to take precautions and observe the water levels in the rivers and the reservoirs.

After a thunderstorm has hit Bulgaria's Dobrich today, the situation remains critical and the town is still in a state of emergency.
