Right-wing populism in Bulgaria

The Bulgarian National Assembly decided to revise its agenda, removing a proposal to establish a Temporary Committee to investigate alleged US influence in Bulgaria, including through non-governmental organizations and foundations.

Kostadin Kostadinov, the leader of the pro-Russian "Revival" party, discussed the potential impact of Donald Trump's return to power on Bulgaria. Appearing on Nova TV, Kostadinov suggested that Trump's presidency would have a positive effect on Bulgaria, primarily because it would signal the end of the "neoliberalism" ideology that has dominated for the past 15 years.

The "Greatness" party has directly accused Boyko Borissov, the leader of GERB, and Delyan Peevski from DPS-New Beginning of vote manipulation in the recent Bulgarian parliamentary elections held on October 27.

Bulgaria's Central Election Commission (CEC) released the final results of the October 27 vote, confirming the composition of the 51st National Assembly. Eight political groups will be represented, while "Greatness" (Velichie) narrowly missed the cutoff for parliamentary entry.

Radostin Vassilev from the "Morality, Unity, Honour" (MECH) party expressed optimism about the potential for a transformative approach in the new National Assembly, stating, "There is a unique opportunity to show a different face.

Preliminary results from the parallel vote count by Gallup International, based on 80% of the sample and funded by NOVA, show the following outcomes in Bulgaria's parliamentary elections:

Ivelin Mihailov, leader of the right-wing "Greatness" (Velichie) party, criticized the current political system in Bulgaria, describing it as totalitarian and oligopolistic, where a select few control the power and act without accountability.

If the elections were held today, GERB would lead with 21.9% of the vote, according to a recent survey by the "Market LINKS" agency, conducted from August 14 to 23.

According to a recent Gallup survey conducted for Bulgarian National Television, around 25% of Bulgarians would vote for GERB if the elections were held in early August. The survey indicates that the real contest will be for the second, third, and fourth positions.

In (potential) upcoming autumn parliamentary elections, GERB is projected to lead with 23% support, according to a survey by Market Links conducted between July 20 and 28. "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) is expected to receive 15.3% of the vote.
