Rio-Antirrio bridge turning 20

After robots were used to check the state of the pylons submerged 65 meters below sea level and alpinists completed their annual overhaul last week, a team of divers will be deployed on the massive maintenance project of the Rio-Antirrio bridge, which turns 20 next month.

New year brings highway toll hike

Higher toll fees at toll stations, in both major and auxiliary roads, increased on Greek roads as of Monday, following earlier announcements by concessionaires. 

On Olympia Odos, the new fees implemented for vehicles affect the following highways: Patra-Athens, Antirrio-Ioannina, Corinth-Tripoli-Kalamata and the Lefktro-Sparta section, as well as the Rio-Antirrio bridge.

Container detached from truck disrupts traffic on Rio-Antirrio bridge

Traffic on the busy Rio-Antirrio bridge in western Greece was disrupted on Thursday after a container detached from a truck and smashed into a traffic sign above the highway.
No injuries were reported.
A local news website said the container was blown off the vehicle due to the gale-force winds blowing over the Patraikos gulf.

Rio-Antirrio bridge tolls to rise as of January 9

Cars and buses will pay higher tolls for the Rio-Antirrio bridge in western Greece as of midnight January 8 to January 9, with electronic card payments rising as of February 1, the managing company said.

Gefyra SA said that passenger car price would rise to 13.50 euros (from 13.20 euros) but that prices for motorcycles and regular travellers using the bridge would remain the same.
