A baby was killed and 17 people injured when a car sprang up on a pavement on the famous coastal street to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Nova TV reported. This was reported on Thursday by local authorities quoted by the France press.
Man who swallowed more than 1kg of cocaine arrested at Athens airport
A 25-year-old man from Brazil has been arrested at Athens International Airport after an airport X-ray found more than 1kg of cocaine in his stomach wrapped in scores of small packets.
The man was stopped by officials on Sunday evening after landing on a flight from Rio de Janeiro via Zurich.

Nine injured after Rio carnival float collapses
Nine people were injured in Brazil on Feb. 28 during the fourth round of samba parades when the platform of a float collapsed under the weight of dancers.
The incident happened around 3:00 a.m. during the Unidos da Tijuca parade in Rio de Janeiro's Sambodromo, a day after a truck carrying a float ran into bystanders late Feb. 26 and injured 20.

Authorities believe that Greece's missing ambassador to Brazil was killed at the home that his wife kept in the Rio de Janeiro area, a police investigator said Friday.
Brazil police officer confesses to killing Greek ambassador
A Rio de Janeiro police officer confessed to murdering Greece's ambassador to Brazil, possibly at the direction of the diplomat's Brazilian wife with whom the policeman was romantically involved, Globo TV reported on Friday, citing police sources.
Greek Ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, was missing since Monday night.

Greece's ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis, went missing three days ago near Rio de Janeiro while vacationing with his family, officials said Dec. 29, asking for information that could help locate him.
"A case has been opened to investigate the ambassador's disappearance," Rio state police said in a statement, according to AFP.
