Authorities in Athens are investigating a potential data breach following a break-in at the Interior Ministry's election directorate.

The incident occurred between 1.40 p.m. and 2.10 p.m. on Friday, while the directorate head was absent from the office, which is located on downtown Evangelistrias Street.

A specialized operation is currently being conducted in the building of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP), BNR reported.

According to unconfirmed information, the action was carried out by the "Internal Security" unit of the Ministry of the Interior.

According to unofficial data, it is an investigation into espionage for the benefit of Russia.

A former U.S. defense intelligence analyst who was convicted of spying for Cuba more than 20 years ago has been released from a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

Ana Belen Montes, 65, was released Friday, Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Scott Taylor said Saturday.
