Germany imposing quarantine on travelers from UK

Germany will impose a quarantine on people arriving from Britain due to the spread thereof the coronavirus variant first found in India, the Robert Koch health institute said on May 21. 

From Sunday, all travelers arriving from the U.K. will have to submit to a quarantine period of two weeks, regardless of whether they can provide a negative test result for the virus.

Germany is facing calls for a second lockdown before Christmas after recording 585 deaths and 29,875 new infections in one day - the highest numbers since the pandemic began.

"We have to act urgently. We have to do more than was previously planned," warned Economy Minister Peter Altmaier.

Russia and Ukraine also reported record numbers of fatalities on Friday.

Covid-19: Germany With New Record of 23,679 Infections in 24 hours

Germany has registered a new record with 23,679 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, according to the Robert Koch institute (RKI).

The RKI announced 440 new fatalities within one day on Thursday. The previous day, a "record" of 590 deaths was reported.

The previous highest number for one day was reached on November 20 with 23,648 infections.
