Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne on Oct. 25 formally rejected part of a deal between Canadian telecom giants Rogers and Shaw to merge, insisting on the need for competition in the wireless market.

A major outage affecting mobile and internet networks at Canada's top telecoms provider was improving late on July 8, the company said, after disrupting banking, calling, cashless payments and even policing.

The permanent representative of the UK to the EU Ivan Rogers has resigned suddenly just a few months before Prime Minister Theresa May launches the negotiations for the exit of the country from the EU.
