On 25 June, the Council placed 7 individuals under restrictive measures in light of the situation in Myanmar/Burma. These sanctions consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban.

Nearly half of those are children, the annual Global Trends study has found.

"Leading the displacement during the year was the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the war in South Sudan and the flight into Bangladesh from Myanmar of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees," a press release said.

A senior Bangladesh cabinet minister has accused Myanmar of obstructing efforts to repatriate roughly 750,000 Rohingya refugees, saying it was unlikely the displaced Muslims would ever return to their homeland.

Myanmar is continuing its “ethnic cleansing” of the Rohingya with a “campaign of terror and forced starvation” in Rakhine state, a U.N. human rights envoy said on March 6, six months after a military crackdown sparked a mass exodus of the Muslim minority.
