Some 2,612 militants of the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militants have been “neutralized” in Turkey’s ongoing cross-border operation into the northern Syrian district of Afrin, the Turkish military stated on March 4.

Some 2,516 People's Protection Units (YPG) militants were "neutralized" in Turkey's crossborder operation in northern Syria, the Turkish military said in a statement on March 3.

Turkey's southeastern border areas, including Afrin's Rajo town in northern Syria, have been cleared of "terrorists," Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on March 3, referring to the People's Protection Units (YPG) elements.

Bulgaria is seriously concerned about the growing escalation in Syria. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said during today's parliamentary oversight, BGNES reported.

The United States’ “real ally” in Syria is Turkey and not the People’s Protection Units (YPG), a senior U.S. official has said, stressing Washington’s commitment to re-building trust with its longstanding NATO ally despite scores of bilateral disagreements. 

The United States forced Turkey to stage a military operation in Syria’s northwestern district of Afrin by supplying advanced weaponry to the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), according to a Russian official. 

Turkey has cleared all militants of the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from the Afrin side of the border, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has stated, adding that Afrin city is now surrounded in a crescent-like shape.

Turkey has not been engaged in any diplomatic talks with the United States over the ongoing military operation in Syria’s northwestern province of Afrin, the Turkish Foreign Ministry has stated, refuting remarks by Pentagon Spokesperson Adrian Galloway, who said Ankara and Washington were in contact over the issue.
