Romani in Germany

Responding to fresh data recording a doubling of attacks on Sinti and Roma in Germany, the Roma Foundation for Europe has called on German public institutions to combat Antiziganism (anti-Romani sentiment) by following similar measures that were used to counter anti-Jewish sentiment in the post-war period.    ...

A commemorative ceremony for the almost 3,000 Roma who perished in the Auschwitz concentration camp on Aug. 2, 1944, during World War II has been held in the northwest province of Edirne along the banks of the Meriç River.

The program started with a minute of silence for the Roma who lost their lives by being gassed to death at the camp.

It also includes family pictures that illustrate how Roma and Sinti people were integrated into local life in Germany and German documents and testimonies by Nazis that explain how Roma and Sinti people were systematically dehumanized.
