Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad began talks in Moscow Wednesday.

"Dear Mr President, I am very glad to see you in Moscow. Thank you for accepting our invitation," Putin told Assad at the start of their meeting broadcast by state TV. "We are in constant contact and our relations are developing."

At least that's what the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, told journalists, reports AP.

Ukraine slammed Russia on Sunday for alleging Kiev was planning to use a radioactive bomb in its own territory, calling the claims "dangerous" lies and prompting Western allies to warn Moscow against using any pretext for escalating the conflict.

As he stated, the President of Turkey played a significant role in a number of issues and Russia is grateful to him for that.
