Russian Cargo Ship Sinks off Spanish Coast Amid Suspected Syrian Evacuation Mission
The Russian cargo ship Ursa Major sank off the Spanish coast on December 23, following an explosion onboard. The ship, traveling from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok, was in the Mediterranean Sea between the Spanish city of Águilas and Algeria's Oran when the incident occurred. The explosion caused the ship to list, prompting a hazardous area to be marked for shipping.
Assad says he had no plans to leave, but Russians evacuated him
Ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad said he had no plans to leave the country and wanted to keep fighting, but the Russian military evacuated him after their base in western Syria came under attack.
The comments are the first by Assad since he was overthrown by the rebel groups on Dec. 8.

The Russians have put an end to the Bashar al-Assad thriller.
The RIA NOVOSTI agency reported shortly before 8.00 on Sunday evening that Bashar al-Assad and his family are already in Russia.

Erdoğan says there is a new reality in Syria
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Dec. 7 that there is now a "new political and diplomatic reality" in Syria, as an opposition alliance has toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad.
"Syria belongs to the Syrians along with all their ethnic, sectarian and religious diversity," Erdoğan told his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) meeting in the southeastern city of Gaziantep.

Russian leader Putin meets Syrian president Assad in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in Moscow, the Kremlin announced on Thursday.
In the talks, the first since March 2023, Putin highlighted his concerns over the situation in the Middle East, which he said was "tending to escalate," in opening remarks between the pair which were aired on state television on Thursday.

The US gave Ukraine the Coordinates of the now Destroyed Russian Cruiser “Moskva”
The United States has exchanged intelligence with Ukraine on the location of the Russian missile cruiser "Moskva" (Moscow) before the strike that sank the warship, the Associated Press reported.
A US official said yesterday that Ukraine itself had decided to shoot and sink the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet using its own anti-ship missiles.
Russian naval captain killed
As it was announced, he died after the Ukrainian missile "Neptune" hit that Russian flagship.
Just to recall, the Russian missile warship "Moscow" sank due to the Ukrainian attack.
It is the largest warship sunk in the last 40 years.
