Retail shops, department stores, and supermarkets are open today, Sunday, to facilitate holiday shopping ahead of New Year's Eve.

Crowds thronged commercial Ermou Street in central Athens Sunday as many shops opened, offering reduced prices.

Shops can stay open, but are not required to, all December Sundays except for next Sunday, December 8. Suggested opening hours are 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Starting on Saturday, December 14, the proposed holiday shopping hours for stores in Thessaloniki will take effect for the 2024 Christmas season. According to this schedule, on the Sundays of December 15, 22, and 29, stores will be allowed to open from the morning until 6:00 PM.
