European and African ministers agreed on Monday to try to improve conditions for migrants in Libya and seek paths such as scholarships for Africans to reach Europe legally, to cut the death toll from smuggling across the Sahara and Mediterranean.

A Christmas spectacle in the Sahara desert! A desert dressed in white is certainly not the sight we are used to. However, this is exactly what happened yesterday. According to the Daily Mail, it has happened twice, both times in the same village, Ain Sefra in Algeria. The last time was on October 18th 1979 and it lasted for an hour.

At least 10 migrants who were seeking to reach Europe are feared dead after their inflatable dinghy capsized off the coast of Libya, a local prosecutor on the Italian island of Sicily said July 23.

A UNHCR spokesman had earlier said that the potential toll could reach up to 40, but prosecutor Francesco Paolo Giordino said it would be closer to "about a dozen".

A brownish-reddish hue hung over the Greek capital for most of Friday, a combination of low cloud cover and the Saharan dust carried by balmy southern winds.

At least 10 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa drowned Oct. 2 and dozens more were missing after their boat sank in the Mediterranean offshore Libya, the coast guard said.
