15-year jail term sought for man for using fake medical report
Prosecutors are seeking up to 15 years in jail for an employee who provided a fake medical certificate with four-day sick leave to have a vacation in the southern province of Mersin, a popular tourist hotspot.

Sait Faik Abasıyanık: Turkey's first modern author
Turkey on May 11 commemorated Sait Faik Abasıyanık, a pioneer in modern Turkish literature, on the 66th anniversary of his death.
Abasıyanık was born on Nov. 18, 1906 in northwestern Sakarya province to businessman Mehmet Faik and Makbule Hanım.

Talat Sait Halman Award presented at ceremony

Turkey’s first culture minister, famed man of letters, passes away at 83
Turkeyâs first ever culture and tourism minister, Talat Sait Halman, passed away on Dec. 4.
Halman was born in Istanbul in 1931. He studied at Istanbulâs Robert Collage and got his masterâs degree in political science from Columbia University.
