In search of remnants from the Battle of Salamis
A submerged part of a building in Ambelakia Bay on the island of Salamina near Athens. An interdisciplinary group of experts is exploring the sea in Ambelakia Bay, the main port of ancient Salamis, where the Athenian fleet assembled the day before the famous Battle of Salamis, during which the swift Greek ships defeated the Persians under King Xerxes in 480 BC.

The Persians | Ioannina | August 19
One of the oldest surviving works of ancient Greek drama, and the only one based on historical events, "The Persians," written by Aeschylus in 472 BC, chronicles the defeat of Persian arrogance and the triumph of the Greek spirit in the 480 BC Battle of Salamis.

Port of ancient sea battle of Salamis discovered!
The Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports said the location where the Greek naval forces had gathered before the historic sea battle of Salamis against Persians in 480 BC had been discovered. The announcement said the location was most likely the commercial as well as the navy port of the island of Salamis in the classical ancient Greek era.

Greek authorities arrest Turkish national for spying
A Turkish national was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of spying, Greek authorities announced. Cengiz Uyugur, 51, who is chief engineer of a cargo ship named M/V Makbule Ana under a Turkish flag, was arrested while taking photographs of the dockyard in Salamis. According to sources, the man was detected by Greek navy officers, who in turn informed the coastguard of Elefsina.
