Doctors strike to protest Kamil Furtun's murder

Doctors went on a nationwide strike for one day on June 1, as the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) announced late last week it was calling all its member doctors to go on a strike to protest the killing of Kamil Furtun, a thoracic surgeon who was shot dead while on duty on May 29 in a public hospital in the Black Sea province of Samsun.

Medical services in Turkey to halt over doctor killing

The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has announced that medical personnel around the country will halt all non-emergency services on June 1 over the killing of a doctor.

Dr. Kamil Furtun, 56, was shot three times by a 30-year-old man at a public hospital in the Black Sea province of Samsun on May 29. 

Boat carrying seven capsizes in northern Turkey, 1 dead

At least one person has been killed after a boat carrying up to seven people overturned in a lake in the Black Sea province of Samsun on Jan. 11, Samsun Governor ?brahim ?ahin has stated.

"Based on initial information, a boat with six or seven people aboard capsized because of a storm," ?ahin said.

Following Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan, another candidate to become Turkey’s next president, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, has also announced that he aims to win the upcoming election in its first round on Aug. 10.

İhsanoğlu told the Hürriyet Daily News’ Barçın Yinanç that he aimed to attract 55 percent of the vote.
