Coachless Beşiktaş wants to turn tide in league

Defending Turkish Süper Lig champion Beşiktaş wants to end its poor run in the competition when it hosts Kayserispor on Dec. 12 despite heading to the game with an interim coach.

Reserve team coach Önder Karaveli will be in charge this weekend after the club announced on Dec. 9 that it had parted ways with coach Sergen Yalçın.

Beşiktaş parts way with coach Sergen Yalçın

Beşiktaş coach Sergen Yalçın has left his post following a string of poor results, according to a statement by the Turkish Süper Lig champion.

"We have parted ways by mutual agreement with Sergen Yalçın, who has been the coach of our Professional Football Team since Jan. 29, 2020," Beşiktaş said on Dec. 9 in a brief statement.

Beşiktaş eyes its first Champions League win of the season when it hosts Ajax on Nov. 24 in Istanbul, hoping to end its recent slump.

The defending Turkish Süper Lig champion has lost all its four games so far in Group C, sitting at the bottom of the group with a 10-goal difference. The club has also won just twice in its last eight league games.

Beşiktaş claims 2-1 narrow win over Sivasspor

Beşiktaş bagged a narrow win against Demir Grup Sivasspor by 2-1 at home in a Oct. 2 Turkish Süper Lig match.

In minute 32, the Black Eagles' Turkish forward Güven Yalçın scored a fantastic right-footed volley in Istanbul's Vodafone Park, following his teammate Valentin Rosier's cross from the byline.

Sivasspor goalkeeper Muammer Yıldırım did not move.

Beşiktaş set to start Champions League campaign at home

Beşiktaş, Turkey's sole representer in the European club football's showpiece event, launches its Champions League campaign on Sept. 15 at home against Borussia Dortmund.

Beşiktaş won the Turkish Süper Lig on goal difference last season, and the Istanbul club has started off its title defense with three wins and a draw from its opening four games.

Beşiktaş increased its points advantage to five in the Turkish Süper Lig after mid-week games as it prepares to take on Hatayspor on May 1.

Its closest rival, Fenerbahçe, was held to a goalless draw at Alanyaspor on April 29, a day after the leader won 3-2 at Rizespor, leading to a huge advantage in the title race for Beşiktaş with four games to go.
