Stores bearing Shein’s name spring up in three Greek cities

Consumers in Athens, as well as Patra and Agrinio, are left aghast by the emergence of brick-and-mortar shops supposedly by popular Chinese fast-fashion online platform Shein. However the parent company reportedly knows nothing about them and considers taking measures, while the emergence of the news has apparently made those stores' operators rather nervous.

EU Set to Impose Tariffs on Temu and Shein Goods from China

The European Commission is reportedly gearing up to impose tariffs on inexpensive goods originating from China, as reported by the Financial Times, citing insider sources.

Under current regulations, items valued below 150 euros can enter the EU from non-EU countries duty-free. Goods exceeding this threshold are subject to varying tariff rates depending on their category.

France cracking down on low-cost fast fashion 

 

France's parliament has backed a string of measures making low-cost fast fashion, especially from Chinese mass producers, less attractive to buyers.

The vote makes France the first country in the world "legislating to limit the excesses of ultra fast fashion", said Christophe Bechu, minister for the ecological transition.

Shein denies low prices due to forced labour

Chinese cut-price fast-fashion giant Shein defended its business model, saying demand-based production accounted for its low prices and not forced or cheap labour.     

Founded in China in 2008, Shein has swiftly claimed a top place in the global fast-fashion marketplace, offering young social-media-savvy customers low-priced collections that turn over at a steady clip.    

US lawmakers query firms over Uyghur rights concerns

Multiple groups of U.S. lawmakers have sought reassurances this week about clothing giant Shein and other brands facing allegations their products use forced Chinese labor or material from regions where such conditions allegedly occur.

On May 2, a group of lawmakers sent letters to the CEOs of Adidas, Nike, Shein and Chinese shopping app Temu with questions about their supply chains.
