Bulgaria Celebrates St. Nicholas Day: A Tradition of Faith and Festivity
Bulgarians across the country observed the Day of Saint Nicholas on December 6, known as Nikulden, commemorating the revered figure of St. Nicholas of Myra. Originating from Patara in Asia Minor in the 3rd century, St. Nicholas led a pious life, aiding the destitute and weak while embodying the principles of faith and truth.

Bulgaria Marks the Day of Saint Nicholas
On December 6, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks the Day of Saint Nicholas, the Miracle Worker.
The traditional dish on that day is fish, most often carp.
According to the legend, St. Nicholas was the patron saint of sailors and fishermen, and more recently is considered the patron of bankers and merchants. Nearly 200,000 people in Bulgaria have a name day.

Shrine of Santa Claus discovered, say Turkish archaeologists
Archaeologists in Turkey have made a discovery which could settle a century-old debate … and disappoint millions of children around the world.
They have unearthed what they say is likely the tomb of the original Santa Claus, or Saint Nicholas, beneath an ancient church in Demre, southern Turkey.
Sinterklaas arrives in Istanbul with gifts in tow
The traditions surrounding Sinterklaas have attracted increasing controversy in recent years, specifically in regard to the question of race with the role of Sinterklaas' helper, ‘Zwarte Piet' (Black Pete). The 2014 celebration of Sinterklaas in Istanbul, however, was a chance for merriment for Turks and Dutch people alike Dec. 6 has finally rolled around again.

Glittery glory
Last Saturday was the day of our good old man from Demre, south of Turkey, who turned about to be the most beloved man of the children, St Nicholas aka Santa Claus. Dec. 6 is believed to be the day the saint had passed away, and the day is dedicated to commemorate his benevolent being.
