Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis urged voters on Friday to participate in Sunday's European Parliament elections, emphasizing the importance of voting amidst concerns of a high abstention rate.

Three Kathimerini journalists were presented with awards by the Botsis Foundation for the Promotion of Journalism at a ceremony at Athens' Zappeion Hall, on Monday evening.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Greece can not offer air defense systems like "Patriots" or S-300 to Ukraine responding to pressure from EU and NATO allies to send more military aid to Kyiv.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking in an interview on SKAI TV's prime-time news bulletin ahead of the European elections, underscored that "the benchmark is the previous European elections." He also characterized the recent violent incident in Parliament as "appalling and revealing," shedding light on the state of affairs within Greek politics.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to meet with representatives of Greece's protesting farmers at Maximos Mansion on Tuesday at noon, Kathimerini understands.

Ten representatives are slated to attend the talks, with their names expected to be announced shortly.

The draft law on cybersecurity will be tabled in the relevant parliamentary committees next week, so that "there will be one body in charge of all the organizations and services - both public and private - that will protect us from attacks," Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou said on Friday in an interview with Skai TV.

The government is preparing legislation that will change the amount docked from pensions for pensioners that go back to work, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Adonis Georgiadis told Skai TV on Sunday.

He said a current flat rate of 30% will be replaced by a system that is proportional and based on the number of days worked.

The viral load found in the urban wastewater of Athens shows that there may be 80,000 to 90,000 symptomatic or asymptomatic carriers of Covid-19 in the region, said Nikos Thomaidis, professor of analytical chemistry at Athens University.

After initially announcing a weekend ban on takeaway food in Athens and Thessaloniki early on Saturday, Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis took it back later in the day. 

"The government assessed that the measure of temporary suspension of takeaway will create more confusion and will cause more problems," he said in a statement.

Education Minister Niki Kerameus said on Friday that the reopening of high schools will be discussed in "the immediate future," without however referring to a specific time frame.

Speaking to Skai TV, she insisted that the reopening of high schools is a priority for the government.
