Skyros island's local council has unanimously rejected a proposed urban development plan that includes expanding tourism infrastructure with marinas and cruise ship docks. The island's residents voiced strong opposition, preferring to maintain their traditional lifestyle over large-scale tourism.

At least 27 migrants and refugees were located on a country road on the island of Skyros on Wednesday while a sailing boat and an auxiliary boat used for their transport were found in a nearby bay.

According to the Coast Guard, the migrants were seven women, three male minors and 17 men.

The sailing boat was confiscated and towed to the port of Linaria.

The negative assessment of the Environment Ministry's Directorate of Natural Environment and Biodiversity has essentially pulled the plug on plans for the construction of six wind farms in the pristine southern part of the central Aegean island of Skyros.

The Ministry of Environment is set to approve a wind farm with 58 wind turbines in a pristine area of southern Skyros in the central Aegean.

However, the move has been met with the objections of the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency (NECCA).
