Bulgarian TV host and singer Slavi Trifonov is launching a new political movement and his own TV station in September, he announced on Wednesday, on the last episode of his signature TV show, Slavi's Show, aired on bTV, Bulgaria's largest TV channel.

A prominent entertainer and TV host Slavi Trifonov called a press conference on Tuesday, accusing his media partner bTV of censorship.

Private broadcaster bTV cancelled Trifonov's TV show on Monday after he publicly gave an ultimatum to Bulgaria's 44th National Assembly, demanding that the results of a November 2016 referendum be enforced.

Chavdar Nikolov, a cartoonist whose contract with private NOVA TV station was terminated and his video cartoon of Bulgaria's Prime Minister removed, has signed with Slavi's Show, one of the most watched evening talkshows in the country.

Slavi Trifonov, a popular TV host, has called on President Rosen Plevneliev to veto the amendments to the country's Electoral Code.

Changes voted earlier this week made it possible to hold a referendum separately from an election scheduled for the same year. Prior to that, any referendum had to be held simultaneously with a vote if these were to take place in the same year.
