Study shows Slovenian community in Austria shrinking
The Slovenian community in the Austrian province of Carinthia continues to shrink, according to a study presented by the Austrian public opinion polling institute OGM on 28 March. The use of Slovenian in everyday life is in decline and it is still mainly used at home and in church.

Ljubljana – Slovenia is celebrating Reformation Day on Sunday, a public holiday that marks more than just the start of the Reformation Movement in 1517, it also celebrates the beginnings of the Slovenian language.

Past must be confronted, SAZU says about reconciliation
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) has presented a statement on reconciliation, underlining that Slovenians must reach an consensus about basic values on which the nations is founded. The past must be confronted because clarification is the only way to catharsis and reconciliation, the statement says.

Dialects make Slovenian the most diverse Slavic language
Officially, there are 37 dialects in Slovenia, but the way that people speak often differs from one village to another. This diversity is well captured in the proverb "Vsaka vas ima svoj glas", meaning "Every village has its own voice".
Sometimes dialects can be so different from one another that it is hard for people from different parts of Slovenia to understand each other.
Croatia May Quit Arbitration Case over Piran Gulf
The arbitation process between Slovenia and Croatia in the Hague over the waters of the Piran Gulf in Istria was in doubt on Friday, after the Slovene judge on the panel and the Slovenian representative resigned - and after Croatia warned it may back out of the process entirely.
