Seaside resort on a quest for its former glory
The seaside resort Portorož has reopened a section of the promenade connecting the main pier and the central beach. The municipality invested some €700,000 in the renovation that will help the resort restore the shine it lost through the years.

Izola claims top spot among Slovenia’s marinas
As boating and sailing trade fairs get under way this month, the Izola Marina will promote itself as Slovenia's leading, having extended its capacity to overtake rival Portorož.
Having built a new €2.3 million pier, the marina now has nearly 800 berths altogether and can take vessels up to 12 metres in length.

Slovenian artist wins Piran Grand Prix
Piran – Matic Moškon, a young Slovenian artist, has won the Grand Prix at the Piran Ex-Tempore workshop in the seaside town of Piran for a painting entitled Just an Observer.
Despite his youth, Moškon’s work “exhibits the quality of psychological introspection,” the jury said as the awards were declared on Saturday evening.

Piran on CNN’s list of 15 prettiest small towns in Europe
Washington – The Slovenian coastal town of Piran has made it to a list of the 15 prettiest small towns across Europe by the US television network CNN, which described it as a “mini Venice”.
Koper port completes south quayside extension
Koper – Luka Koper, Slovenia’s sole maritime port, has wrapped up an EUR 45.6 million investment by acquiring an operating permit for the last section of the new extension of Quay 1, a release from the company said. The work on this last bit started in mid-2020 with part of the funding secured in the NAPA4CORE project as part of the EU’s Connecting Europe facility.

Ex-Luka Koper chairman acquitted in retrial
Koper – Robert Časar, ex-chairman of port operator Luka Koper, and Milan Pučko, former executive director at the company, were acquitted in a retrial at the Koper District Court on Monday after they were found guilty of abuse of office in defrauding Luka Koper when planning a logistical centre in Beltinci, north-eastern Slovenia.

Police boat retiring after 26 years of service
Koper – After 26 years of service, Slovenia’s oldest police boat made its final voyage off the Koper coast on Wednesday. It will now be consigned to a museum.
Built in Italy in 1994, the P-111 boat embarked on its maiden voyage in June the following year. It has been used to patrol Slovenian waters and the border and has been involved in many a rescue operation at sea.

Ceremony remembers return of Primorska to the homeland
Idrija – The main ceremony remembering the return of the western Primorska region to the homeland will be held in the town of Idrija, west of Ljubljana, on Saturday. The event will also mark 74 years since the implementation of the Paris Peace Treaty under which Primorska was reunited with Slovenia after being under Italian rule since the end of WWI.
First cruise since 2019 expected in Koper
Koper – The Sea Dream, a luxury yacht-style cruise ship, will dock in Koper on Friday, the first cruise ship to visit Slovenia’s largest coastal city since 2019. The Sea Dream will bring around 50 passengers to Koper, mostly from the US and England.

Koper police help migrants caught in a storm
Koper – Koper police on Wednesday helped a group of migrants caught in a storm, and pulled over a van with eleven illegal migrants in south-western Slovenia, the Koper Police Department said on Thursday.
Police received a phone call from an Afghan citizen who said that a group of migrants was caught in a storm “somewhere in the hills”.
