Mobile alerts via SMS or Viber will be sent to consumers with smart meters when the price of electricity in the next day’s wholesale market is about to exceed 200 euros a megawatt hour.

In an effort to protect consumers from soaring energy costs, Greece's Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAAEY) has announced a new initiative aimed at providing timely notifications regarding fluctuations in electricity prices. 

A different landscape in the color layout of electricity charges, with additions and subtractions to tariffs, as well as radical changes to the zone of cheap electricity and everyday habits, is planned by the government from the beginning of the year. The changes make green tariffs optional and emphasize fixed tariffs that offer pricing certainty without surprises.

A new rate category for electricity will be introduced within the year that will charge use by businesses in real time, every 15 minutes, affording them the opportunity to reduce their energy costs.

Special tariffs will come into effect on January 1 for consumers who use smart meters for electricity consumption, designed by electricity suppliers in compliance with the decisions of the Ministry of Environment and Energy for the new framework that will determine retail electricity as of 2024.

Kranj – Electricity meter maker Iskraemeco has signed a contract with Iceland’s largest power distributor Veitur on an advanced smart metering project that will allow Veitur to transform electricity, heat and water networks into a sustainable smart network, the Kranj-based company said on Tuesday.

Schneider Electric contacted Greek power grid manager DEDDIE on Monday to express its interest in the replacement of the approximately 7.5 million conventional electricity meters in Greece with smart ones, in a project totaling 1.5 billion euros.

"EPS blocks Serbian companies from bidding"

BELGRADE -- The Anti-Corruption Council called on Monday for an inquiry into why EPS "blocked domestic companies from bidding in the tender for smart meters."
