Solar power in India

Country’s largest solar plant now operational

Slovenia's largest solar power plant has been launched. Built for €5.5 million adjacent to the Brežice hydropower plant, it has a peak power of 6 MW, enough to meet the electricity needs of about 1,800 households.

What makes it special alongside its size is that it is connected directly to the 110 kilovolt transmission network and forms a hybrid system with the hydropower plant.

Wind, solar energy saves Turkey $7 bln in imports

Wind and solar power generation has lowered Turkey's import bills by preventing $7 billion of fossil fuel imports in the last 12 months, London-based Ember said in a report.

In the following months, approximately $700 million in savings is expected each month if the gas price remains the same, the think-tank predicted.

First community solar array in Slovenia launched

Ajdovščina – The Ajdovščina municipality in western Slovenia has set up the first community solar array for local electricity supply. Seven households are involved.

The pilot project by energy group Gen-I and the municipality uses the roof of a public facility, a primary school in the village of Budanje, to supply electricity to seven buildings.

Incentives to speed up returns on Turkish rooftop solar

Turkey can build on a new support scheme for rooftop solar projects by providing further incentives that would currently reduce the payback period by four years from the current 11-year estimate and down to two years by 2030, a new report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) said on Dec. 19.
