Facing severe drought, Somalia calls for Turkish support
Somalia's president on July 6 called for assistance from Türkiye to combat the effects of severe drought that is threatening the Horn of Africa.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud made the comments during his first visit to Türkiye since returning to office following an election in May. The two countries have forged close ties over the past decade.
Turkey donates military vehicles to Somali National Army
The Somali National Army (SNA) received military vehicles, including trucks and ambulances, donated by Turkey on Nov. 16 as part of Ankara's support for the nation's military.
Senior military officials received the donation after a ceremony at the Turkish Embassy in the capital of Mogadishu.
Turkey set to open largest military camp in Somalia
A Turkish military training camp is set to open in the Somali capital Mogadishu next month, the Somali defense minister said on Aug. 3.
Abdirashid Abdullahi Mohamed said in a statement that the camp which had been under construction for the last two years will open this September.
Turkey finalizes military training base in Somalia
Turkey has finished its first military base in Somalia and will help train the country's army to fight the deadly al-Shabaab terror group, a senior Turkish source told Anadolu Agency on Oct. 1.
A Turkish military attache speaking on condition of anonymity said the U.N.-backed base will be operational by the start of 2017.
