A criminal high court in Istanbul on May 17 acquitted former police chief Hanefi Avcı of charges of supporting a terror organization.  

An Istanbul court on April 12 ordered the acquittal of 13 suspects, including journalists and writers, charged with membership of the Ergenekon organization in the OdaTV case. 

The ruling comes six years after the opening of the case, widely thought to have been the work of prosecutors linked to U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.

A total of 13 suspects including journalists and writers appeared before a judge in the ninth hearing of the OdaTV case on Feb. 15, charged with membership of the "Ergenekon" organization. 

The controversial case was initially pursued by prosecutors with links to the Gülen movement, an ally turned enemy of the government. 

A prosecutor's office in Istanbul, which ordered the detention of Doğan Group's Ankara representative, Barbaros Muratoğlu, has cited articles published in two pro-government newspapers as evidence, daily Hürriyet has learned. 

The Doğan Group has released a statement rejecting reports that an "operation" has been conducted against Doğan Holding after its Ankara representative, Barbaros Muratoğlu, was detained in Ankara early on Dec. 1.

Muratoğlu's detention came after daily Akşam editor-in-chief Murat Kelkitlioğlu leveled a series of accusations claiming he was linked to the Gülen movement 10 days ago.

The debate is the investigations of Hidayet Karaca and Ekrem Dumanlı on charges of being a member of and managing a terrorist organization; while one of them is arrested, the other has been released with a travel ban.
