5th Athens Half Marathon kicks off
The 5th Athens Half Marathon kicked off at 9pm on March 20 in the heart of Athens, at Syntagma Square, in front of the Greek Parliament, with more than 18,000 runners taking part.
The Athens Half Marathon event includes three (3) different races with timing services and one (1) more with no timing services for athletes with disabilities and athletes of Special Olympics.

Bulgarian Paralympic Athlete Stela Eneva Caught Doping
Stela Eneva, one of the best-known paralympic athletes of Bulgaria, has tested positive for a banned substance.
Eneva was caught usingan unnamed substance during a world championship in Doha in October, where she had won the gold medals in discus throwing and shot put competitions.

The Marathon organized in Tokyo is one of six World Marathon Majors, but it is the only one in the world that the runners are dressed in eccentric costumes.
More than 1.7 million roadside spectators had the chance to see ballerinas, princesses, superheroes, and cartoon characters running in Tokyo Marathon on Sunday February 28.
Greek athlete breaks pole vault world record (vid)
Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis aged 16 broke the world record in indoor pole vault during a sports event held at Athens’ Peace and Friendship Stadium on Saturday, with 5.53 meters in his first attempt.
With his jump, Karalis topped the performance of Argentine pole vaulter Germán Chiaraviglio who achieved 5.51 meters in 2004.

Retired triple jumper Pigi Devetzi may be stripped of her Olympic silver The retired triple jumper Piyi Devetzi, 39, could be stripped of her Olympic silver and bronze medals after Greece’s track and field federation (Segas) said on Wednesday she had failed a doping test.

Come join the Santa Run in Athens on Nov. 29
Santa Run Athens will be held again on Sunday, November 29, in the center of Athens at 11.30 a.m. The event is an international phenomenon which takes place in several big cities around the world.
All runners will put on a Santa suit taking part in a symbolic race, without timing, where everyone will be a winner and a supporter of a special cause.

Kenyan and an Ethiopian athlete have come first at the 37th Vodafone Istanbul Marathon on Nov. 15, as thousands of Istanbulites have enjoyed the opportunity to cross the Bosphorus Bridge combining the Asian and European continents on foot.

Christoforos Merousis wins gold at Athens Marathon: results
Marathon runner Christoforos Merousis won the 33rd Athens Authentic Marathon on Sunday for the third consecutive year. He managed to come first in the men’s race with a time of 2:21.22. The gold in the women’s race went to Minori Hayakari from Japan, who came first with 2:52.06.
