Standing NATO Maritime Group 2

The Turkish and Greek navies have joined a NATO maritime exercise in the eastern Mediterranean amid a visible improvement in ties between the two neighboring states who have recently been at odds over overlapping territorial claims in the Aegean and Mediterranean.

The statement said that the goal of the visit is "strengthening defense relations in the region and strengthening maritime security in the waters of NATO member states."
The U.S. ship, it is added, is the flagship of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2).

Türkiye is hosting a NATO navy exercise that started on Sept. 11 and will end on Sept. 22 in the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea as it is designated as the organization's maritime command.

The "Regina Maria" frigate docked in the Constanta military port, thus concluding its participation in the Permanent Naval Group of North-Atlantic Alliance SNMG-2 (Standing NATO Maritime Group 2), in the international waters of the Black Sea, according to a press release sent by the Naval Joint Chiefs of Staff (SMFN).

A helicopter participating in NATO's Standing Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) was reported missing in the sea west of the Greek island of Kefalonia, according to Greekstate TV on Wednesday evening.

The plane was flying in Italian airspace when it disappeared from the radar. 

Frigates of the Turkish and Italian navies conducted a joint training session in the eastern Mediterranean, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said on April 24. 

The national maritime exercise Breeze 2019 has begun. The military exercise will last until July 21. The military headquarters based in Varna has named the zones of the military exercise in the Bulgarian aquatory and the exclusive economic zone of the Black Sea.

President Klaus Iohannis on Friday visited the ships in the Constanta military port that were taking part in Sea Shield 2019, the largest multinational exercise in Romania's waters and international waters of the Black Sea, and congratulated the Romanian and foreign soldiers on their results. "I am very pleased to meet here after you have completed the exercise.

A Braunschweig class corvette F260 is towed through the Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, Monday. The international maritime exercise NAIAS was conducted in the Aegean Sea from September 14 to 22 with the participation of Greece, the US, Egypt, Albania, Romania and vessels of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2. Secretary of State for Strategic and Bilateral Affairs in the Euro-Atlantic Space George Ciamba paid a visit on Friday to HMS Duncan British destroyer and Gaziantep Turkish frigate, on the occasion of the presence of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 in Constanta.
