Sani Development and Tourism Company SA, the highest bidder for the development of the Sani-Kassandra property on the Halkidiki peninsula, signed the agreement for the development of the area assessed at 8.6 million euros, the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), a member company of Growthfund, the National Fund of Greece, said on Tuesday.

The “Holy Mountain”, as it is known, has been the spiritual centre for Eastern Orthodox Christianity since the 8th Century AD, and consists of 20 monasteries and numerous sketes and approximately 2,000 monks.

Mount Athos, in northern Greece, is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The peninsula is a World Heritage Site and autonomous polity within Greece under the official name Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain and has its own flag.
