Greek MPs meetings with institutions are strewn with thorns

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Economy Minister George Stathakis are continuing their meetings with Greece’s quartet of creditors from the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Stability Mechanism (ESM). The goal is to surpass obstacles by August 11 for a positive recommendation on a new multi-billion-euro loan for Greece.

Stathakis against scrapping tax breaks for islands

Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis has warned against abolishing the tax breaks offered to several Aegean islands.

Speaking to Antenna TV on Thursday, Stathakis said ?there are many reasons why the favorable status must be maintained,? although he said he was willing to consider improvements to the existing framework.

Former MP and journalist Aris Stathakis has died at the age of 71. Stathakis worked at a number of media but is best known for his work in the world of motor sports.

He was editor of 4-Trohoi (4-Wheels), Greece’s prime car magazine, between 1970 and 1974, and presented a car show on ANT1 TV during the 1990s. He also provided commentary on Formula 1 races.
