Student protest

Police detained nearly 200 people at the U.S. universities over the weekend as they cleared pro-Palestinian encampments, in the latest campus clashes triggered by protests over Israel's war against Hamas.

Across the United States, a groundswell of student protests in solidarity with Palestinians is gaining momentum, sparking both cancellations of classes and clashes with authorities on campuses nationwide.

Prosecutors in Athens will move against student protesters who have occupied universities in recent days as well as university administrators who have failed to take action against illegal activity on their campuses.

Protests are also starting in the Netherlands and France

A student at a Hong Kong university who fell during protests over the weekend died on Nov. 8, the first student death in months of anti-government demonstrations in the Chinese-ruled city that is likely to be a trigger for fresh unrest.

On Thursday, Greece commemorates 43 years of the student revolt against the military dictatorship in the country.

On November 17, 1973, tanks were sent to crush the student protest at the Technical University in Athens. The demonstration was crushed but, a few months later, the military regime in Greece was also defeated.
