Millions in African countries struggle to have power
From Zimbabwe, where many must work at night because it's the only time there is power, to Nigeria where collapses of the grid are frequent, the reliable supply of electricity remains elusive across Africa.
The electricity shortages that plague many of Africa's 54 countries are a serious drain on the continent's economic growth, energy experts warn.
Netflix, UN team up for Africa talent hunt
Netflix has launched a project with the U.N.'s cultural body on Oct. 14 to hunt out young filmmakers from sub-Saharan Africa and explore traditional folktales from the region.
"African Folktales, Reimagined" teams the U.S. streaming giant with UNESCO to find six young directors to make a short film to be aired on Netflix next year.

Global Blindness Set to 'Triple by 2050'
The number of blind people across the world is set to triple within the next four decades, researchers suggest, reported BBC.
Writing in Lancet Global Health, they predict cases will rise from 36 million to 115 million by 2050, if treatment is not improved by better funding.
A growing ageing population is behind the rising numbers.

A leopard which entered a school in the Indian city of Bangalore injured six people who were trying to capture it.
The leopard entered the school in the Indian city of Bangalore around 4:00am local time, but it wasn’t discovered until it attacked an employee in the late afternoon.

Greenpeace member judge acquits leopard killers in Turkey
A judge, who is also a member of Greenpeace, has acquitted two shepherds for killing a leopard in southeast Turkey, on the grounds they had killed the animal in self-defense.
Shepherds Kas?m Kaplan and his cousin, Mahmut Kaplan, were on trial for shooting and killing a leopard in the Ç?nar district of Diyarbak?r province in 2013.
10 migrants dead, dozens missing in shipwreck off Libya
At least 10 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa drowned Oct. 2 and dozens more were missing after their boat sank in the Mediterranean offshore Libya, the coast guard said.
