Suleiman the Magnificent

Meryem Uzerli, better known as Hürrem Sultan in the popular Turkish TV series “The Magnificent Century” (Muhteşem Yüzyıl) has returned to Turkey, after signing a contract with O3, the Turkish production company of the biggest TV channel of the Arab world, MBC.

Istanbul is hosting an unusual exhibition titled “Magnificent Century: The Great Exhibition” of costumes, decorations and accessories used in a popular Turkish television series on the life of 16th-century Ottoman Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent.

The restoration of the Suleiman the Magnificent bath in Burgas is almost complete and will open for visitors next year, report the Bulgarian-language  media.

The XVI century building is in the Aquae Calidae archaeological complex in Burgas, near the mineral water springs. 

The bath has been restored to its original Oriental appearance.

The filming of a documentary on Istanbul’s masterpiece the Mağlova aqueduct has begun.

Hundreds of objects and accessories, which were ordered during the renovation of the Seraglio at the time of the Ottoman Sultan Murad III, went down into water when the ship sank near the inlet Gnalic in Croatia. The 16th century treasures, which have been removed from the shipwreck, will arrive in Istanbul next year for an exhibition.

SYRIZA confirmed on Tuesday, following some two weeks of deliberations, that Thrace-based Roma activist Sabiha Suleiman will not stand as a candidate with the leftist party in the May 25 European Parliament elections.

SYRIZA has opted for Oumit Mestan Osman, a member of the region’s Muslim minority, instead.
