A 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday at Athens' International Airport on a European arrest warrant issued by the Czech authorities for theft, acceptance and distribution of proceeds of crime, forgery and fraud.

A 40-year-old man is accused of defrauding the government of 1.4 million euros by establishing businesses, primarily gyms and hair salons, in the northern port city Thessaloniki and using straw men to avoid taxes and social security contributions. 

Police moved in oi the suspect following an anonymous tip. 

A 44-year-old with a criminal record has been arrested for the murder of topographical engineer Panagiotis Stathis.

Police in Athens have arrested a 56-year-old fugitive wanted by the authorities in Albania for child trafficking.

The suspect, who was wanted on an Interpol arrest warrant, was tracked down in the central Athens district of Agios Nikolaos and taken into custody on Monday afternoon.
