Sustainable building

In Tavros, Athens, a decades-old refugee apartment building is being transformed to generate double the energy it consumes. This project, called Passivistas: The Tavros Project, retrofits the building to Passive House standards - a model minimizing heating and cooling demands by 90%.

The energy upgrade of the existing building stock - especially residential buildings, with 90% of them having been built before 2000 - will be a particularly difficult challenge given the insulation specifications and heating systems.

Public residences planned for earthquake-hit areas in Türkiye will prioritize landscaping designs featuring open green spaces with an aim to provide a soothing environment for survivors. 

Dragia built the house according to all the energy efficiency rules, and when he started construction back in 1983, there were only a few solar houses in the former Yugoslavia.

Starting on Monday, the "Energy Saving at Home" program will accept applications through the platform https://exoikonomo2023.gov.gr. The application period will extend until September 15. It is estimated that around 20,000 households will participate in the program, which has a budget of 300 million euros.

Nikos Androulakis, leader of the Socialist PASOK-Movement of Change, said the party's program focuses on sustainable development and the green transition as the only way to limit the consequences of climate change. 

Slovenia's pavilion at the International Architecture Exhibition, which opened on 20 May and runs until late November, is dedicated to the principles of ecology in architecture which have been lost in the face of advancing technology.

A regulation that came into force as of Jan. 1 ushers in a new era in energy efficiency in buildings in Türkiye.

According to the regulation, all buildings to be constructed larger than 5,000 square meters in size will be required to be B energy efficiency class and meet 5 percent of energy they consume from renewable resources.
