Türkiye is closely monitoring developments in Syria following clashes between the PKK and Arab tribesmen, and reports of Russia and Syria establishing a new base in the region, defense sources have said.

Deir el-Zour in eastern Syria saw fighting early on Aug. 7 between the PKK's Syrian wing YPG and local tribes.

The attack on the largest US military base in Syria has resulted in the deaths of at least six Kurdish fighters. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a key ally of the United States in the fight against jihadism, issued a statement attributing the attack to "mercenaries of the regime" of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

U.S. soldiers have taken part in a joint military exercise with PKK/YPG terrorists in the countryside in Syria's northeast.

Photos from the exercise conducted by the U.S.-led Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the ISIL were shared on the coalition's Twitter account, saying, "stronger together."

Türkiye will continue to fight against the terrorists until it establishes a 30-kilometer depth security corridor in northern Syria, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said, signaling a new cross-border military operation in accordance with the plans and strategies of the government.

Turkey will address its security concerns in northern Syria with new operations against the YPG group, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on June 5.

"We will address security concerns with new operations," the president said, addressing his ruling Justice and Development Party's 30th Consultation and Assessment meeting.

The YPG, or People’s Protection Units, are the main component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

The top Turkish and Russian diplomats met on Dec. 29 to discuss international issues and help prepare for a meeting of the two countries' presidents.

The biggest problem between Turkey and the United States is the latter's continued support to the YPG in eastern Syria, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has said, calling on its NATO ally to revise its decision to impose sanctions on the Turkish defense industry body over the acquisition of the Russian S-400 systems.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) lends support to Turkey's drilling activities in the eastern Mediterranean, party spokesperson Faik Öztrak said on Aug. 11.

Turkey has the right to make any kind of decisions on its continent area by international law and should not take a step back, he told reporters at a press conference.
