Movement for Democracy invites members to vote on party logo

Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the Movement for Democracy, has invited members of his newly-founded party to choose its official logo.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Kasselakis announced that a shortlist of logo designs is available for voting on the party's website. The voting period will be open from Wednesday until December 20.

Journalist and SYRIZA MP Giorgos Karameros has been appointed the party's new press spokesperson.

Thanasis Theoharopoulos has been named director of the office of SYRIZA's new leader, Sokratis Famellos.

Giorgos Bagkis, a close associate of Famellos, will take on the role of director of the party's parliamentary group.

SYRIZA sees seats dwindle to 28 as another MP defects

Yiannis Sarakiotis became the latest lawmaker to defect from embattled SYRIZA, leaving the leftist opposition with 28 seats in Parliament from 47 after the June 2023 election, which had positioned it as the country's second biggest party behind ruling New Democracy. It is now in third place, lagging center-left PASOK.

The fact that SYRIZA managed to bring an end to its adventures with Stefanos Kasselakis - albeit it in a not very democratic way, admittedly - and to democratically elect a decent, if not brilliant, new leader in Sokratis Famellos is good news for Greece's earthquake-prone political system.
